Kennecott

On our day off yesterday we decided to head over to the Kennecott copper mine for an afternoon of tourism. We went with our friends, Janie & Paul and their kids and had so much fun! The mine is huge--astronauts can see it from space! In this picture, the big dump trucks (which are the size of a house and cost over $3 million each) are hauling dirt from the bottom to have minerals extracted.

Our boys loved watching the big trucks drive around. They just adored the visitor's center though. Seriously--it was a little boy's dream come true. They had miniature trucks, bulldozers, dump trucks, and trains on display.
This is a huge tire from one of the gigantic dump trucks. The sun was bright in their eyes, so they were covering up their eyes. It was just a quick trip, but fun and educational!
