Our Dilemma

We have a dilemma. Ben is really ready to start riding a tricycle. Sam has a tricycle, but he won't ever let Ben ride it. Any time Ben is outside alone (which isn't very often) or if Sam is busy, Ben will get on the tricycle and give it a try. When Sam discovers this he kicks Ben off. So, Ben's birthday is coming up and we thought we'd give him a tricycle for his birthday. But then we realized that Sam is actually ready for a bicycle. At the store he can ride all around, turn, and brake.

So our dilemma is if Sam gets a bike for Christmas, then we'll be stuck with two tricycles. We've talked a lot about this and our solution is:

Matt broke down and bought a bike (which we would have done anyway...) instead of another tricycle. Both boys are happy on their new modes of transportation. Sam has graciously turned the tricycle over to Ben and Ben is still trying to understand that the tricycle is his. Problem solved.

P.S. I know all of you who are second/third/fourth children in your families may think this is unfair. We know the oldest always gets the new stuff, yada yada. But Matt and I are both the oldest in our families and we don't care! The oldest child has to deal with way more flack from parents than any other siblings. Plus the oldest gets in trouble for everything. So, Ben may get hand-me-downs but at least he gets FREEDOM. It's true and you know it!

  1. Speaking as a second child, hand me downs are awful but he's only 2 so he will never remember. Ben's probably just pleased as punch that Sam doesn't kick him off anymore :). I miss those boys! Loved the old Katie with bangs, you should totally go back to bangs, seriously...
